The Khayelitsha Central Business District Development Project
is a joint initiative of the City of Cape Town and the Khayelitsha
Community, financed by Rand Merchant Bank.
Thanks to an innovative institutional framework – which
includes the Khayelitsha Community Trust (KCT) – we are
guided by the core values of community participation and upliftment
in the fulfillment of our KBD development objectives.
Our partners are:
The City of Cape Town for the grant for operations as well as
the capital budget allocation for each financial year, which funds
service delivery on the KCBD land
CoCT for making available its capable personnel to guide and support
the Trust in executing its mandate
The Development Bank of South Africa for seed funding to develop
a business case to be sold to RMB and other banking institutions
in South Africa
Subsidiaries:
- First Rand Bank Limited; via the Rand Merchant Bank division
- KBD Retail Properties (Proprietary) Limited
- KBD Management (Proprietary) Limited
- KBD Management (Proprietary) Limited – “KBDManco”
– and KBD Retail Properties (Proprietary) Limited have
taken joint responsibility for the development and management
of the retail centre in Khayelitsha on behalf of the Trust.
In addition, the Khayelitsha Community Trust is registered with
seven trustees who represent the community of Khayelitsha.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our partners
and investors for their generosity and continuous support. Without
you, the KBD Development Project – and, indeed, the Khayelitsha
Community Trust – would not be possible, and we would never
have been able to achieve so much in terms of improving the lives
of people in Khayelitsha.
