The public sector has supported and invested in the Khayelitsha
Business District (KBD) Development Project since the inception
of the Khayelitsha Community Trust in 2003.
Thanks to public sector investments of more than R50 million
over the years, we have been able to focus on improving –
and fulfilling – the following critical objectives of the
KBD Development Project:
- Bulk services and road infrastructure
- Regional magistrate offices
- Offices for the Department of Social Welfare
- Offices for the Department of Home Affairs
- Swimming pool complex
- Cricket oval and club-house facility
- Phase 1 and 2 of the transport interchange
- Phase 1 of the landscape plan (public walkways and civic square)
- Phase 1 and 2 of informal trading facilities
- Multi-purpose centre
Looking ahead
The Khayelitsha Community Trust’s public investment portfolio
is expected to increase by R200 million in the near future, which
we aim to filter through to the following components of the KBD
development strategy:
- A 230-bed district hospital
- Offices for the CID-branch of the South African Police Services
(SAPS).
